Hello Loves,
I’m deep into the practice of writing.
My days have a pattern, a flow, a ritual.
Wikipedia defines ritual as a sequence of activities involving gestures, words, actions, or revered objects. I think about my day and all of the rituals I enact.
I wake up every morning and say thank you for another day on this beautiful planet. I look about my bedroom and feel gratitude for the art on my walls, my comfy bed, the heat coming from my baseboard heaters, and the light shining through the blinds.
I go into the kitchen and make tea in my favorite teapot. It’s shaped like an elephant and the tea comes out of her trunk. She’s smooth, white and shiny, and fun. It’s a joy to pour my tea every morning. I then light a candle on my table in a beautiful lotus holder. I open my journal to an empty page and write three full pages of all the thoughts in my head. It’s a clearing ritual I learned from Julia Cameron. It sets the tone for the day.
After breakfast I light more candles on my personal altar then sit in the same corner of my couch and meditate. Sometimes it’s in silence and sometimes I use insight timer, put on my headphones, and go on a guided journey. I love this practice of presence. It makes me feel grounded, in touch with my energy, and happy.
The next steps I take are into my bedroom to make my bed. I love making my bed! I plump the pillows and fluff my quilt. I make it pretty. Then I open the blinds and leave the window ajar for fresh air. I feel like I’m waking up my bedroom for the day.
After I get dressed, I always put in earrings. I feel naked without them! Then I head to the bathroom for my morning ritual in there – face wash and face cream, brushing and flossing, and tending to my unruly hair.
Down the hallway I go into my writing room. I shut the door behind me. There it is quiet. I light a candle on my desk. (Yes, I know, I LOVE candles.) And I also light incense and sage that I use to cleanse my body and mind. I ask my ancestors, angels, and guides to show me the way for the day. Then it’s bum in the chair and fingers on the keyboard.
Later in the afternoon, when the writing is complete, I eat, take a nap, then head outside for a walk. I wonder each time what adventure I will go on and what I will see.
These are my daily rituals.
What are yours?
