Hello Loves,
June was a leading and learning month.
I taught my writing workshop, Write From Your Heart-From Wounded to Warrior, at a second-stage housing for vulnerable women and children. I offer this workshop for free with journals and pens, refreshments, and childcare. For a month we meet in this supportive circle of women. My intention is to create a sacred space for them to speak their truth and feel connection, and that they find their voice and heal through writing.
This is a class of sisterhood, empowerment and evolution.
The first session is all about oral storytelling. What is the one traumatic event that sticks out in your life? Most of us have more than one, many more. But the first one that pops up in your head is usually the one you’ll want to focus on. Nobody and I mean NOBODY wants to talk about their trauma. Dredging up old vile and painful memories that you have pushed aside or compartmentalized is not fun. But in this class we also create an anchor-your personal love story with yourself. It’s something to come back to again and again when you write about the tough stuff.
In the second session we get into writing about our one trauma event. We talk about the risks of speaking our truth, and the power that past negative experiences may have over us. We brainstorm the pivotal moment, thinking back to the texture of the event – the who, what, when, where, why. This class is as hard as the first, but the conversations start flowing, and women realize that although each of their own stories is unique to them, they also share a commonality within the group. This is where the sisterhood builds.
The third session is about growth. Sometimes it’s challenging to look at our trauma from a different perspective – to look past the victim. But if you get curious you can ask yourself – what is the lesson here? What have I learned about others and myself? What personal responsibility do I take for my life? How can I rewrite the ending so I come out a Victorious Warrior? This class is always enthusiastic and vocal and inspiring. Reclaiming our power.
The final session is about healing. We look inward to our self-care habits – how do we give ourselves unconditional love, support and acceptance? How do we dispel shame? How do we bring more peace into our lives? What have we eliminated on our road to healing? What have we added? The ideas and energy flow in this class. Everyone is wide open. The truth has set us free!
To all the women who’ve chosen to attend this workshop, I honor you and respect you and hold you in high esteem.
