Friendship

Sep 1, 2022

Hello Loves,

My friendships have been my foundation in my life.

I’ve been blessed with many friends. I had my best buds in elementary school who were a gang of tomboys. We ruled the monkey bars, swings, and slide. We played tag and red rover out in the field, and our jeans had grass stains at the knees. We didn’t care what clothes we wore or if our hair was brushed, we just wanted to play and get rowdy.

In my teens I had a posse of girlfriends. We threw notes to each other in class, ate lunch at our spot, and had sleepovers on the weekends. We rode our bikes to the lake or to the ocean, went roller skating and ice skating, talked about crushes, and got into a lot of mischief. We are still friends to this day.

By my mid-twenties, the women in my life were my chosen family. My soul family. Some of us had kids, and some of us were aunties. We shared our deep truths, open hearts, and common spirituality. We celebrated our independence, freedom, strength, creativity, passion, path and purpose, and lifted each other up in awe and grace. We took refuge in each others arms through the tornadoes and hurricanes that ran through all of our lives, and we were there to help pick up the pieces that remained.

Now in mid-life, my friendships are scattered around this planet – some close and some far. I’ve been blessed with the kind of friendship that can endure time. That can endure years and years of no communication. But the moment we talk again, it is as if no time has passed. I call these friendships, these women, soul sisters, kindred spirits, twin souls. We are connected through all of eternity. Meeting again and again in other life times/dimensions.

Thank you to all of my sisters.

  1. I was drawn to your work today, it’s the Saanich Fair weekend – remember running into each other there when we were 13? This line fills my hear with joy: “We ruled the monkey bars, swings, and slide. We played tag and red rover out in the field, and our jeans had grass stains at the knees. We didn’t care what clothes we wore or if our hair was brushed, we just wanted to play and get rowdy.” I am eternally grateful that this experience is woven into our youth. It was a special place on earth, we were fearless, there was freedom in those adventures. Thank you for capturing this with love.

    1. I remember seeing you at the fair and running into your arms – my long lost best friend. You wrote your phone number on a scrap of paper and I put it in my pocket. Later that day I realized it had fallen out and I had no way of finding you. I was so sad. I have nothing but the sweetest, purest, love filled memories of our childhood together out in the countryside. It made me who I am today. I’m happy we found each other again. xo
