Hello Loves,
I got married!
My wife and I planned our entire wedding by ourselves. We kept the traditions that we loved, and threw away the ones that made us feel uncomfortable – no aisle to walk down, no photos during the ceremony, no clinking glasses for more kisses. It was super empowering to make our own decisions on how we wanted our day of love to be.
We’d rented a quaint hall in the countryside that was constructed from logs harvested from the local forest and built by the community. The night before our wedding we set up long, cedar plank tables, and decorated them with runners of cedar boughs and jars full of dahlias. Each guest was gifted a jar of honey and a pair of chopsticks engraved with our wedding date – August 18 2024 – 888 – lucky Chinese numbers of abundance and prosperity.
On the day of our wedding, we had our beloved family and friends form a circle. A choir sung us into the center, and we walked around the inside acknowledging these very special people. We called in the elements and our ancestors, exchanged vows and rings, and jumped over the broom. Oh the cheers of joy!
There were group photos near a beautiful forest, then we went in to feast. The hall was gorgeous. The guests were thrilled! There was a full buffet table, and a three-tiered wedding cake, speeches that made me cry, and our surprise first dance, which was a choreographed hip-hop routine. Ha! It was hilarious!
We danced and danced and danced. At the end of the night the lace at the end of my wedding dress had bits of grass and moss and twigs woven into it. The perfect combination for this wild nature child. I am so in love.
Cheers to love!
